Alex Weiermair

Weiermair’s path is notable for his transition from a national champion in college hockey to a dominant force in major junior hockey. 

  • Vegas Golden Knights (NHL): Drafted in the 6th round (186th overall) of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. He signed his first pro contract in March 2026, which carries a cap hit of $975,000 and runs through the 2028–29 season.
  • Portland Winterhawks (WHL): Joined mid-way through the 2024–25 season after leaving the University of Denver. In the current 2025–26 season, he has emerged as a top league scorer, recording 37 goals and 56 assists for 93 points in 66 games, ranking 5th in the WHL for total points.
  • University of Denver (NCAA): Played parts of two seasons (2023–2025). He was a member of the Pioneers’ 2024 NCAA National Championship team during his freshman year.
  • USA Hockey NTDP: Spent two seasons (2021–2023) with the U.S. National Team Development Program. He recorded 49 points in 107 total games and helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2023 IIHF U18 World Championship.

Drafted: Kyle was drafted by the Portland Winterhawks in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, 3rd round, 58th overall

Leadership: He was named the 49th team captain in Portland Winterhawks history, continuing a family tradition of leadership in the WHL

Performance: Known for his defensive skills and relentless pursuit, Kyle has been a key player for the Winterhawks, contributing significantly in both regular season and postseason games
